All in all it was a fun game to watch even though they lost again.

As I watch a lot of other teams on the satellite, it occurred to me that the Canadiens have a below average defense corps. Gorges is the best the Habs have and he is realistically a second pairing guy maybe third on a strong team. Hal Gill is the pylon we Hab fans used to laugh at when he was on the leafs. Subban will be a star in the next couple of years but is not now. I like what I've seen from Emelin but he will need a couple of years to develop as well. Diaz is ok but soft and probably won't be around long term. And Weber, well he's not NHL material. Spacek is probably a nice guy but I hope Emelin has won his spot.Gomez and lack of scoring are not the reason the Habs are mediocre, it's the defense.

I haven't mentioned Markov because he hasn't been a part of the Habs for a couple of years now and may never again be the star player we used to love. Maybe he'll miss half the season again, who knows. Campoli is a stop gap guy and he's out long term.

So there you have it. With the Devils looking good again the playoffs may not be in the cards this year.dustynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435571560723564995.post-91444044767840220122011-10-14T09:32:26.495-11:002011-10-14T09:32:26.495-11:00So much for stopping the soft penalties. The effor...So much for stopping the soft penalties. The effort against a crappy Flames team loaded with ex-leafs was shocking.

The Colorado game will tell the fans a lot about the Habs. So far they have won a game they could well have lost against a lousy team and looked weak in their two losses. Buffalo is coming as are the Penguins, Flyers and the Bruins twice along with an energetic Panther team which seems to have improved over last year. And of course the leafs again.

Unless the Habs play much better we could see them play themselves out of the playoff picture early like the Devils did last season.

I was really positive about the team before the games began but now I'm fearing a 3 and 8 start in October. Injuries aside this team is a mess.

Cole was horrible last night; is it too early to try and trade him back to Carolina like the Oilers did?dustynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435571560723564995.post-50299680100489917952011-10-14T08:33:40.112-11:002011-10-14T08:33:40.112-11:00I know you are a Pleks fan. That is fine. I don...I know you are a Pleks fan. That is fine. I don't think he is used too much. I think the lack of CH centers causes them to use Pleks against the wrong people.

There are a lot of minutes per game by the 3rd and 4th lines. PK among them. Pleks could dominate there. A Pleks centered third line could give the team enough balance to contend for the cup.

To do that the team would have to have strength at center. The team has not has any strength at center for almost 20 years.

On Thursday night the team Captain put the team into a hole they couldn't escape. The team played like a pickup squad. Captains on contending teams usually come from the center. They build the lines and the team. The Canadiens are woefully weak at center, and leadership. They may get along, and Gomez may always buy a round, but they are weak at center.

And Pleks isn't a first line center any more than Koivu was. But he could pot 90 points at 3rd.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435571560723564995.post-88897780514099378452011-10-12T16:18:05.336-11:002011-10-12T16:18:05.336-11:00Great picture. One thing that I think...Terrific picture and post.

One thing that I think Pleky's teammates can do to help out is stop taking so many soft penalties. If they work harder and smarter he won't have to bale them out so often. PP minutes are easier so don't mind using him there as much as possible.

Too bad about Betts. I thought he was a key to becoming a contender.dustynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435571560723564995.post-54882839766695782712011-10-12T03:47:51.601-11:002011-10-12T03:47:51.601-11:00Great read J.T.
Just want to reiterate your point...Great read J.T.

Just want to reiterate your point about Plekanec on the point when on the PP. Makes no sense and he doesn't seem that comfortable in that role either...Hadulfnoreply@blogger.com
