Great read.

Funny thing is, I remember when Price came into the league, he was billed as more of a hybrid goaltender, and it seems that he was made to adopt the butterfly style. Granted, that change has also been accompanied by a drastic improvement in his performance and fact that he doesn't seem to let in that one deflatingly bad goal every night.

I wonder if there's been any comparisons done between butterfly-style goalies and stand-up or hybrid-style goalies to see if the style itself is actually responsible for better numbers, adjusting for team factors. It's one thing for Patrick Roy to have influenced a generation of goalies because of his success, but what if only Patrick Roy was Patrick Roy?Jay in PAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18030705140884332663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435571560723564995.post-90691508400259749212014-10-22T07:48:40.162-11:002014-10-22T07:48:40.162-11:00Very informative and interesting read.Very informative and interesting read.moemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07714585748102791365noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435571560723564995.post-21480106772260609562014-10-22T03:03:36.596-11:002014-10-22T03:03:36.596-11:00A very insightful blog, Leigh Anne. Now I see the benefit of a backup who can play a lot of games to give him some rest to prolong his career.

It made me think of the football players who are somewhat crippled after they retire, and the declining quality of life they then have to deal with.

This struck home for me as I am personally going through chronic joint pain issues, many of which originated from sports injuries in my early adult years. Now, as a senior, I struggle with constant pain, opioid pain killers that aren't working, and referrals to pain specialists, rheumatologists and orthopedic surgeons. And I was only an amateur athlete!

This is why I don't begrudge the money pro athletes earn during their short careers. For most, their careers are short, and they pay for it physically (and mentally) for the rest of their lives.

Thanks for the insight! Very interesting.Ianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11141406139388093224noreply@blogger.com
