Take the time to let ...Well, there are two choices. Take the time to let the player develop, or take the time to let the player develop in the minors. Because of the Habs perennial bridesmaid standing there is great pressure to bring them up, and then they play 5 minutes a game, make mistakes, and get booed. Why, because of the perennial pressure to win. Of course some guys never make it up, or bolt at the first opportunity. Either way in Montreal the media and fans will be all over the decision.

Some guys 18 years old are ready. They are mature, solid, and skilled. Those guys usually go 1-2-3. They come up with weak teams fighting for gate and local market. They get cut a lot of slack, get minutes, and develop in the NHL. Other guys like Lats get chances but never really realize their potential, receiving gradually reducing minutes until saved for a time by the bell. Still they sold tickets and sweaters while they were in town.

Some guys are all agent and team hype. Remember Pierre Dagenais? Chelyabinsk? 2003 Habs, 57 games, 17 goals, 10 assists? Just what the Habs needed. AK. 2010 Habs, 59 games, 15 goals, 18 assists. Compare the two and fan outrage ensues. Why? They are the same player really, and their careers will follow the same route unless something changes.

Never forget that the folks termed "too old" to play at 36 are just past their physical prime, and mature. Most NHL players are young and strong physically. They heal quicker, but their head doesn't contain the experience necessary to succeed. Overall these are not Crosbys. Additionally the older guys have those nagging knees, that hip that needs a daily pak, and a shoulder that aches always now.

Bergeron has his uses, but he has always worn out his welcome because of his drawbacks. When the Habs needed him he came through and despite some real bonehead plays, was a decent and cheap replacement. Right now he is extra, but Martin at least knows what he gets with Bergeron. With the brothers K or O,Byrne or Pouliot, or a few others, no he doesn't know what he will get.

Boucher is a sports psychologist and coach. He doesn't much care what he gets, he builds what he needs instead. Given this team he might do better than Martin. Or worse and be booed out of town. But he was born under the lucky star so I think he'll be along next camp. Subban and a couple others will follow, and the rest of the Habs will change next year. 2012 should be a good year for the Habs, barring a misinterpreted prophecy or two.

NewAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435571560723564995.post-37192331786188855422010-04-21T08:58:47.482-11:002010-04-21T08:58:47.482-11:00I agree with J.T. Was there any doubt? One of the comments made about Nashville is how long most of their D-men spent in the AHL developing - they take their time with their youngsters (think Detroit and Jimmy Howard). I would lean toward keeping him down until Coach Boucher says he is ready. Lets see how much pull Boucher has when the organization has glaring needs.DKerrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02445386772250841397noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435571560723564995.post-42087281175960214122010-04-21T04:36:02.840-11:002010-04-21T04:36:02.840-11:00JT, you couldn't be more right about PK. Giving PK the time he needs to fully develop is going to be for the best, and you listed all the reasons why. Yes, he's probably better than half of our D (I'm looking at you, Hamr) but time in the AHL will do him good.

Do we really want to submit him to Count Chocula methods' of teaching?iRiRihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01061962143365550574noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3435571560723564995.post-46632086035784225312010-04-21T03:41:24.796-11:002010-04-21T03:41:24.796-11:00Great article!!!!

People thin...I echo each of your sentiments on PK.

People think he's going to ride in here...and do what exactly? Does anyone really think that Jacques Martin would let PK Subban pull spinoramas at the blue line against Ovechkin, Semin, Backstrom, etc? He'd be stapled to the bench just like the other youngsters who dare break away from his system.

He's better off in Hamilton. Let him taste success there.

There's going to be plenty of time for the fans to jump all over him next year when he's not Drew Doughty. The short fuse this city has developed with youngsters has got to stop. And the poor youth development once they land in Montreal has to stop as well.Kyle Rousselhttp://www.cowhideandrubber.comnoreply@blogger.com
